What are some of the ways that you, as a volunteer, may support The Closet?
We welcome your support whether you come from one of our supporting faith communities, from local businesses, civic organizations, or from the community at large. We honor and respect your contribution and will try to use your skills and talents to best meet both your expectations and our needs. Whether you have one day, one day per week or one day per month, the time you contribute to the Closet benefits thousands of your community members in need. There are numerous volunteer assignments from which to choose, thus you will be able to find that task, that calling that makes use of your unique gifts and interests as you help the Closet to be an enjoyable and fulfilling experience for those who shop here. Additional information and volunteer guidelines can be found in our Volunteer Handbook.
We welcome middle, high school and college youth to work in a volunteer capacity as a way to meet their school or religious requirements for community service, to improve their college applications or to enhance their resumes.
As a volunteer, you may sort and price donations, check merchandise for parts, hang clothing or restock the sales floor, organize books, toys, knick-knacks or household essentials. You may enjoy interacting with customers in the store – helping them to locate items, staffing the dressing rooms and jewelry counter, bagging purchases. Training for each of these tasks is provided by the store manager, the volunteer coordinator and by our most experienced volunteers, our “senior volunteers” who, after working at The Closet for years, are knowledgeable about policy and procedures.
